My husband and I live in Minnesota right now, and because of the surge of people moving out to live in the country, then complaining about smells and such so they turn it into a city....we want out.&nbsp; Our 10 acre rural "estate" is literally being swallowed up by low income, high density housing.&nbsp; The 20 below weather in the winter and the 100 degree summers and mosquitos the size of storks have also taken their toll.&nbsp; I have lived here for 30 years, but enough is enough.&nbsp; We want at least 10 acres in a more temperate climate, green grass and trees, few bugs.&nbsp; Anyone out there know what regions we could look into for properties suitable for horses?&nbsp; Please, brag up your home state or town, plus I need to know what kind of economy you all have too, like would I be able to get a job?? <edited><editID>Kanimalhouse</editID><editDate>38384.4748726852</editDate></edited>

Well, you won't get recommendations for a more temperate climate or less bugs from a bunch of Canadians!<img border="0" src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0"> Except possibly from those in BC.

Hmmm, well, most of us on here are Canadian and well, the fact is, our winters are pretty cold almost everywhere up here. <br /> <br />I'm not sure if someone will be able to help you on this but we do have a couple of members from California and a couple from Australia. LOL <br /> <br />I am 100% behind you on being annoyed by people who move out to the country and then complain about the smells, lack of shopping, etc. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley11.gif" border="0">! It's the same up here. I just bought 55 acres in a rural area but of course, I worry that the town will catch up to us one day and we'll have a Walmart in the field across the street before we know it (well probably not but I still worry). <br /> <br />However, I think all places have their good and bad sides. If you have great weather, chances are, you will have bugs, or drought, or forest fires, etc. <br /> <br />As for jobs, I guess it all depends on what you are looking for but again, if you dislike the -20 in Minnesota, I don't recommend moving up here to Canada so I can't be of much help. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0"> <br /> <br />We do have beautiful summers though. Canada has it's disadvantages but also many advantages. Wouldn't have it any other way. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0"> <br /> <br />Oh wait, this wasn't supposed to be a "rave Cananda" thread. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0"> Sorry kanimalhouse! I hope you find a place you like! <br /> <br /><edited><editID>Lix</editID><editDate>38384.4924537037</editDate></edited>

Oh yeah, forgot about BC. That's if you even want to deal with <em>immigrating</em> to Canada. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley5.gif" border="0"> <br /> <br />

Kanimalhouse - I'm not so sure that such a place exists, and if it did, we'd all be moving there! Like the others have said, our winters are brutal - we finally just snapped out of a -30 cold spell (not sure what that is in Farenhiet terms!), and our summers (especially where I am in southern Ontario) get STINKING hot!&nbsp; We also have the stork-size mosquitos you are thinking of, plus blackflies, and additional annoying creatures...... <IMG src="smileys/smiley11.gif" border="0">
I would suggest the west coast of BC for a more temperate climate, although I'm pretty sure that the cost of housing there is through the roof (pardon the pun!), plus I'm not sure how great the job market is out there.........
Hopefully Lola will stop by this thread - she is our resident "Reasons why I hate BC" activist! <IMG src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0">
But, if you can stand the cold, we do have an abundance of green grass and trees (outside of southern Ontario!), and like Lix said - Canada is the greatest country on earth, and I wouldn't have it any other way - bugs, cold and all!

Well ... if I was doing some "wishful thinking" on relocating to the States, I'd definitely be looking into North Carolina.&nbsp; Sort of the best of both worlds.&nbsp; I have friends that have a place outside of Winston-Salem that was really nice ... small properties are available, a wide selection of equine sports in the area, close to cities and services without having them move on top of you.&nbsp; I also like the Asheville area but more mountains than flat.&nbsp; Snow is a reality but not a killer.
The bonus is that the beach isn't that long of a drive!!!

I've always said that if I moved to the States I'd go to Kentucky.&nbsp; Sigh...
Kanimalhouse, you may want to look over on the COTH website.&nbsp; They have a lot more Americans there, and they may be able to help you out more.

I would go to Florida for sure.<IMG src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0">&nbsp;I love it there. Somewhere down in Juptier or somewhere close. I seen alot of ads for riding schools etc.. there. When I go to Miami I always go to Davie to go shopping at the tack stores. South Florida is hotter during the winter then central and northen Florida. My other picks would be Texas and of course Hawaii!!<IMG src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0">
I'm Canadian just like everyone else here. I love my town but soon its going to be gone, why all the development that's going on.<IMG src="smileys/smiley19.gif" border="0">
