Well, we went to look at a place just around the corner from us on Saturday, and moved the horses on Sunday! It's a very lowkey place, horses come in twice a day for feed, then back outside, just what I wanted. Three run-in sheds, awesome hay and miles of trails!
We put the boys in a separate paddock to start and the BO let the other horses out a few at a time to "chat" over the fence. I had told her that Teddy is very laid-back and gets on with everybody. Well! You should have heard him roaring and squealing, striking at the gate - ears forward the whole time though!
I stopped in on my way home on Monday and Tuesday nights - the boys looked very pleased with themselves and I'm told that they quite approve of the hay. This is going to mean a lot more opportunity for us to ride now - and we can go through the fields to the stable where my bf takes lessons, and use their facilities (cross-country jumps - woo hoo!). Maybe come spring (longer days) I will look into taking some lessons and tuning Teddy up for the eventing season. Oh yeah, board is very reasonable - under $250.
Think I'll go for a ride tonight - in the dark!

That sounds great! My coach and I used to go out hacking in the dark come fall, but we didn't this year for some reason.

Ohhhh riding in the dark is gun especially if there is a full moon to provide enough light for it to be easy to navigate. Haven't been on a after dark ride in a really long time. The new place sounds great!! and added bonus of board being under 250 a month. Lucky You.

I hadn't been riding in the dark for years! It was really nice - with the snow on the ground it was easy to see where I was going, even though I don't know the fields.
Poor Red, he came trailing after us for part of the way, then just stood there looking abandoned. Teddy was not impressed at going off without his buddy and was doing some interesting things - I think I could teach him piaffe LOL.
This farm has several geriatric horses, mid-20's and one 30 yr old. They all look as round and shiny as apples. Most of the horses come up to be petted when you walk in the yard, one likes to lick - all over! That tells me a lot about the care and feeding.

One of my best rides ever on my QH was a nighttime trail ride in the winter. No lights except the moon and stars and everything was quiet and peaceful. Leo was a bit nervous about it at first, I guess because he couldn't see as well and everything looked unfamiliar to him, but we were out with other riders, so he soon adjusted to the dark.
It was one of those cold, crisp, clear winter nights. The full moon was so bright that it looked like diamonds were sparkling on the trees and the snow. It was heavenly!!
