I just got my new saddle in the mail, and having never had a *new* saddle, I don't really know types of things I should do to it, if anything? Any suggestions would be awesome!

I washed mine down with saddle soap and put a bit of bees wax on it. It's awesome now. No longer slippery.

Don't soak it though as you'll ruin the insides. Just a light damp wiping with a bit of saddle soap was all I needed.

I usually give it a clean and condition... but yes, riding in it will break it in faster than anything

I guess that was the obvious answer - ride in it. Though I think my neighbours think my husband and I do other things with it when they see me haul it out of the car with my bridle and chaps on. Dear god now that I think of it, that would look bad. Usually it just sits in the front hall till I get around to cleaning it.

I treated mine with mink oil. It may darken it very slightly. It does help soften it a bit, without the problems of neatsfoot oil. BTW, you've got to get that waxy stuff off first; saddle soap for that.

Just get some Passier and treated a couple of times. Don't use any soap on it till you have ridden a few times. DON'T use pure beeswax it clogs the pores.
And CONGRADS on the treeless saddle, let me know how it goes.

yes my suggestion is ride in it...I got a brand new one a couple of years ago...took it out of the saddlemakers shop and put it on the horse and away I went....be careful of what you put on that saddle, oils and such can rot the sewing and what not...JMHO...
