Is it just me or do you feel a little more confident after a "close call?" I was riding this horse in my lesson today, cantering along, everything is merry, when my sister pulls a sudden stop infront of us on her horse. So we swing out and around, my horse breaks, I push him on, he picked up the wrong lead and when i asked for a change in the corner he decided he'd had enough, deeked out, dropped his shoulder and i'm sure had every intention of laughing as i went sailing off. However, much to both of our amazments, I stayed on The deciding factor was when I saw the mounting block come sailing towards me and i thought NO WAY am i going to hurt like that again (thinking broken ribs) as i was literally aimed to do a head plant into it. I caught myself on his neck and pushed up just in time to introduce him to a one rein stop special. So i felt pretty proud of myself for actually sticking on in the end though...to be honest...if a gust of wind had hit me i probably would have gone off LOL the best part though was i wasn't even scared to continue our canter.
Of course my coach was looking for me to thank her for all the no stirrup and standing work she had made us do for the 45 mins prior

great when you miss a fall,, it is a confidence booster when you know a few months earlier you might not have stayed on...

Way to go SP!! I haven't had any close calls in a while, but whenever I'm on a horse that bolts or spooks and I get a little "rattled", I'm always amazed that my butt stayed in the saddle, when I know years ago I would have been eating some dust....
There is something to be said for no stirrup work! (besides all the bad stuff!)

Lol thanks! That's it exactly...I know like a year ago i would have sailed right over his head...I mean, a year ago Dream just tripped and I flipped over his head lol! I'm noticing too now that my position is getting a bit better that i'm starting to hurt in new places after my lessons...like my sides and my abdomen. It took me 2 years to get here, i am NEVER giving up riding!

Congrats SP. It is so rewarding when you really start to notice changes in your riding, makes you a lot more confident.

It's my turn! lol. I'm riding Bogart tonight and he hasn't been ridden in a week, so it should be exciting and we will see if I have lost any of my "sticking" ability! I will keep everyone posted!!!
