What to do?

Postby Marley » Mon Feb 28, 2005 7:37 am

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Hi all, well I am toying with the idea of going to a schooling show in May. My coach says I should go and that I should go to the one May 8. I would also like to go as another person here will be going and I will be able to meet her and her daughter.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#BUT I have on problem and it is with me. I picture myself, my old self, yes old, ohhhhhhhhh lets just say late 40's, riding with all these young kids. There is a division called beginner Adult which is for green horses which is exactly where I would go with my guy. He is great on the flat but very green over fences. So I know only people over 18 can go in that class but just the same I am going to be at least twice most of those peoples age!!!!! Oohhhhhhhhhhh I feel old. I too am green over fences so the class suits both me and my horse.........................should I go.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Yesterday our lesson was super. I did have one run out but it wasnt dirty because it was probably me and not the horse--------not probably, it was ME. I can go into the walk, trot, canter class, the cross rails class and then they have a 2' hunter class -----all in the Adult Beginner.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#You know I dont feel old but whenI get to a show and there are all these kids, I begin to feel old............................should I go? I dont feel old..............and I would like to see how Trouble does.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#We did go to 3 Dressage shows at Blue Star when he was 4 but in Dressage, even at the shcooling show level there are lots of older people, its just different than the hunter/jumper shows.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Anyway thanks for listening---------I will probably go---I have to find someone to trailer me as SPotz's trailer needs an inspection and she isnt sure it will be done by then.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Susan#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Of course you should go!#ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys/Happy/11.gif"#ed_cl# You need to school your greenie over fences - that's what schooling shows are for. I will be doing the same this year with the bf's new horse and I'm over 45 too! Don't worry about competing against the kids - you're there for #ed_op#EM#ed_cl#you#ed_op#/EM#ed_cl#. Now, if you were taking an experienced horse just to win ribbons - well, that's a different story. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#If you and your coach feel you are ready to go--GO FOR IT! Life it too short...live for today! So what if there are lots of kids...your there to enjoy yourself, school your horse and you fit into that class. Don't even hesitate. When I was younger heck I started showing when I was 35. Kind of old to be STARTING. I started to show Trillium (although dressage) when I was around 40. They don't judge your age...LOL! Have Fun! #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

You'd BETTER go!

Postby chenders01 » Mon Feb 28, 2005 9:11 am

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Marley, if you don't go, based on some silly notion that you're "too old" I'm gonna come up there and kick yer butt, ya hear?!?!? You're being silly. Really. They have an Adult Beginner division BECAUSE there are adults who want to show, but don't want to show against kids. Do you really think that you'll be the only rider in that entire division?? If that's the case, just think of all the 1st place ribbons you're gonna bring home! #ed_op#IMG onmouseover="this.style.backgroundColor='#C6D3EF';this.style.border='1px solid #3169C6'; " style="BORDER-RIGHT: #3169c6 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #3169c6 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #3169c6 1px solid; CURSOR: pointer; BORDER-BOTTOM: #3169c6 1px solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #c6d3ef" onclick="InsertImage('/richedit/smileys/cheeky.gif');" onmouseout="this.style.backgroundColor=''; this.style.border=''" src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys/cheeky.gif" align=absMiddle#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#If you're really unsure, why don't you skip taking Trouble but go yourself, to check things out, and see how many adults show. I think you'll be kicking yourself though, if you don't take him. The only person who is gonna think you're too old is YOU, so get over it. There's LOTS of over-40 people who show. I'll be in the same boat as you when I start showing...going against riders who are half my age (or less). And I'll be showing dressage, where there are no Adult Beginner divisions.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#GO!! You'll regret it if you don't. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Of course you should go!!!

I went to a schooling show at York and came in 3rd in a class of 3. First place went to an 8-year old, second place went to an 11-year old. I'm in my mid-forties and proud of it!

Go! #ed_op#br#ed_cl#
Have fun, and don't worry about your age, it doesn't matter! #ed_op#br#ed_cl#
The only person that will be focussed on your age is....you! So don't
let it bother you at all, because I bet nobody else will even care, you
are another person in the competition. #ed_op#br#ed_cl#
So go, get some experience and have fun! #ed_op#br#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Are you thinking of Boots and Saddles or Trail Blazers? Either way - go for it! I'm pretty sure both have adult and junior and younger divisions. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Hey Marley!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#You *wont* feel out of place in the Adult/Green Division! Last month there was a grey-haired guy in that division, (had to be close to 60!) and my part-boarder (who's no Spring Chicken!) also rides in that Division. It's a cool class. Most of the riders are definitely over 25. And the ones that are younger are usually only in that division because it's open to Green horses as well, so they're in there strictly for the experience. It's *perfect* for you! And it's so laid-back and fun, especially since by the May show, all of the "Circuit" folks who attend there in Feb Mar & Apr to school for the show season have left for loftier show rings.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#As to trailering, let our coach know if it's going to be a problem. We have other ways to get you there. #ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys//smiley2.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Sue, I think i will probably be going to that with Harvey. She will be in the junior beginner. Most likely w/t, possibly w/t/c. Let me know if you need a lift as you are on our way. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
