Does anyone know TB trainers that sell the horses that dont make
it as a race horse? Do you just go to the race track and hope you find
something?? I have bought ex racers before but not straight from the
track! THanks#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I #ed_op#FONT color=#0060bf#ed_cl#know at Barkey's there is someone who goes through almost every sale with horses who have just come right off the track. I think they are his at the track and then he takes them to auction to sell. They usually go for $100 - $400. Maybe you could go to the auction and try and network and maybe get to the track to see if you can find anything you want.#ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#If your near Fort Erie track I have a few contact out that way.  They have quite a few at their farm...Just too slow and the season is over.  I don't like to pick them up at auction...often times they have soundness problems.  Off the farm you could probably vet them.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Try checking with LongRun.  #ed_op#A href="http://www.longrunretirement.com"#ed_cl#www.longrunretirement.com#ed_op#/A#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#They probably wouldn't have anything that you would want to adopt, but they may be able to help get you in touch with people who have horses to sell.  The ladies that run the organization know everyone at Woodbine and probably at Fort Erie too.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#And try #ed_op#A href="http://www.phase2thoroughbreds.com"#ed_cl#www.phase2thoroughbreds.com#ed_op#/A#ed_cl#  (I hope that is the right address).  They have horses for sale that are ready to go on to be riding/show horses.  Again, even if they don't have what you are looking for, they may be able to help you find it.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I suggest the Phase2 site. It's good. They have a bunch from Fort Erie and surrounding area. I think you can go to Fort Erie itself as well to see horses (that's where Ms. Zipperz is from!)#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
*God forbid I go to any heaven where there are no horses*

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#i've already made up my mind that when i ever buy a horse......it'll be a TB, i knew that long ago, but if i find an OTTB whom i can really connect with, i'm going for that!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#When I worked @ our local racing stables, we often had people coming through our barn looking at horses, (this happened more towards the end of the racng season).  The race office has a list of all the trainers names/contact numbers and this way people can contact them to see if they have anything for sale. That is how most people went about it anyway.  A lot is also by word of mouth.  Let your vet/farrier know your looking for an OTTB, as they may be able to put you in contact w/someone#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Also, if you take a look through your local yellow pages, under horse trainers/breeders.  You'll find some trainers have their stables listed.  Simply phone them up and ask if they have anything for sale, or know of anyone who does.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society has a  section of horses for sale.  Just go to the following site and click on 'Sales', then click on 'Horses For Sale'.  They also have listings for the upcoming mixed sale.  The Horses for Sale section has contact info.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://www.cthsont.com"#ed_cl#http://www.cthsont.com#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#0000ff#ed_cl#I agree with Taco, contact the race office of the nearest track.  Or you could post a want add at the stable gate.  #ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#0000ff#ed_cl##ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#0000ff#ed_cl#If you do get to go on the backstretch to look at horses, remember where you are.  You'll get run out of a barn double quick of you start poking around any horses other than the ones you are there to see.  Also don't wander into anybody's shedrow uninvited.  #ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#0000ff#ed_cl##ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#0000ff#ed_cl#I remember in Calgary/Edmonton there was always a fall `paddock' sale at the end of the season.  It was a good place to pick up horses that didn't work out for whatever reason.  Lots were sound, but just couldn't run fast enough.  Its a bit late in the year for that, but something to keep in mind for next year. #ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

I don't know about other provinces but in Ontario you can't just go to
the track & look around for a horse to buy.....most horses are at
the track for training/racing & these are usually not the ones
their selling as riding horses.  Also the tracks do hold select
sales(there is 1 coming up in december)but they are not open to the
public for just anyone to walk in & buy.  You must have a
trainer or licenced sales rep buy for you!#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
I know of 2 race breeders that might have horses for sale as riding
horses.....they were too slow for the track.....both are around the
Newmarket/Uxbridge area....message me if interested & I will get
you their phone numbers....I get their yearlings for boarding in the
winter for backing & fitting up.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#The CTHS was fantastic in helping me out. Perhaps they could give you more info on obtaining pre-track horses? #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#It's not like people just came trapsing onto the back stretch, that would NEVER happen, you need passes to be on the backstretch.  There is obviously security and for obvious reasons.  But, near the end of the racing season, we often had people who were allowed to come take a look at horses that were going to be for sale at the end of the season, or who were already for sale, as of now, due to an injury, or lack of talent.  You needed to be "invited" into the backstretch...meaning...... you had to be announced at the security gate, and the trainer would be responsible for you diuring your time there..  So, people would often call the trainers up on their own (w/the number they got from the race office), make a scheduled appointment, so the trainer could be available to show them around.  Once on the backstretch, they were only allowed to be w/the trainer/onwer etc, and once they were done, they were escorted off the backstretch.  There is protocal they must follow, but it is done.  This is how it was/is done at our race track here in MB, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it happens in other provinces.#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl# #ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
