#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Hey everyone, #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I don't post often on the boards but I do roam around and read topics often.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I need your opinions. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I've been at University for just about 3 months now and already I hate myself for choosing a university so far away from my horses #ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys//smiley19.gif"#ed_cl# .#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#How many of you guys went to University w/ out your horses? How did you cope?!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I'd love to hear about what you did or what I should do! thnx. btw: I'm willing to work also..#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Well, I went to college and kept my horse with no help from my parents, but it did mean that I graduated with a lot of debt that I could have avoided had I not kept her. That being said I would do it that way over again, I don't regret it, she was not a horse where there was much in the way of options in selling or leasing.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#If you want to bring your horse to school, I think the main problem would be transportation, because not many barns are accessible by public transit, and unless you are already in a situation where you know you can catch a ride out to the barn with someone else, you might end up taking time away from your schoolwork and working to support a horse you never see.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#If you feel like you can manage the schoolwork, work part-time and still be able to see the horse then go for it. It's not impossible. Try and get into a situation where you can work off the board or a portion thereof, and look for a p/t job at Timmy's or somewhere like that.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Have a real good think about it before you go moving your horse though. Be realistic. If it turns out that it's not doable to bring one of your own to school, perhaps you could look for a horse to ride for someone else. There's usually horses looking for experienced riders, some owners are just happy enough to get someone competent to spend time with their horse if they are too busy, and won't even ask for part-board - although that is also an option you could explore if need be.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Are your horses at home right now?#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Thnx for the reply!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I'm not planning on bring a horse up this year b/c of most of the reasons you mentioned. But next year there is that option if I choose to. Thats a good idea about riding a horse for someone who is too busy, I'll look into that. #ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys//smiley20.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#When I went to university I left my horse at home for my first year. I had planned on bringing her with me second year but ended up retiring her instead. So I decided to volunteer at the local theraputic riding centre to get my horsie fix. It was great! I ended up being asked to excersise ride for them and had a blast working with all the horses and students. If you have access to a car I'd check this route out because all they want from you is your time!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#In my fourth year I got a new horse and brought her with me and boarder her at a nice little place with an indoor. She was too young to ride but I took advantage of the indoor arena and did ground work with her all winter. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I made time for my horsie activities by planing my weeks and my study schedules out a head of time. Of course during exams and when I had a paper due I'd skip the barn but more often than not I had plenty of time to visit either the horses at the theraputic place or my own in 4th year.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#What university are you at? I went to Western. :)#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I was lucky enough to go to University in my home town, so I could keep riding, so Im not much help there. YAY WESTERN!! Thats where I went and graduated in 01. If you need any help finding local barns in London (if you do decide to take lessons or whatever), let me know. What discipline do you ride? I know several in the area and know London well since Ive live here for 16 years. Good luck with it all!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Eastwood is very close to London, maybe even accessible by public transport or close to it. I've only shown there, so I cannot say what it's like to board or ride there, but when I was looking at moving to London about 10 years ago it was my first choice as a boarding facility.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#A weekly lesson? Partboarding? Offering to put miles on a greenie for someone? There are some solutions, with university and school, the best usually is a lesson. You get a good schoolie, some instruction, so you don't lose it, and you still have time and money for everything else. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Chance will be hopefully coming with me next year if I get into Guelph. I have a couple leads...and will do anything to keep him.

Right now, I am in London and board him just outside London. If by chance he can't come with me...he is heading back to MnR's.....his stall is all ready  She's one of the ONLY people I trust with him....but he will have to wear a ChanceCAM....so I can watch him on the internet.

But so I don't drive MnR CRAZY...lets hope he can come with me.

RaplaFarms - Where is Bear Creek, I've never heard of it?

Darcysgirl - feel free to PM me....if you ever need a horsie fix. :)

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#EMD, are you thinking of going to Western or Fanshawe College in London?#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#maddys_girl, I know your just kissin butt! hahaha#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Darcy, I'm about 20 minutes outside of London, but if you need a huge horsey fix where you can just maul them to death, you can common out to my place. I've got 4 horses, a mini donkey and a pygmy goat, who ALL love attention. A few of them could use some riding time too (I can't ride em all at once :))#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#PM me anytime!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
The more I know about men, the more I like my horse(s)

On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them.
