Cribbing?

Postby dazzling » Thu May 05, 2005 12:31 pm

I posted an ad a short time ago in the EC classifieds #ed_op#img src="richedit/smileys/Happy/21.gif"#ed_cl#and have had a good response. #ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
A nice young woman came by to check out the horse for one of her
students. Everything went well and she came back earlier today
with her student, the student's mom, etc. Again, everything went
really well. We were all very pleased.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
THEN, after we turned the horse back out into his paddock, he walked up
to a fence post, grabbed it and CRIBBED! I was mortified. I
"thought" I had heard him do this once, about a year ago, but I never
saw it and shrugged it off. I have never, ever seen him do this
and I was completely shocked. As the people were leaving, the
coach said she would talk things over with the mother and student (no
one made a big deal about the cribbing; just said he was a naughty boy)
and would call me later to let me know.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

I am completely devestated and mortified. If I had seen him crib
or knew he had done this (my husband has since told me he has seen him
do it "a couple of times") I would certainly have made a point of
saying that he was a "possible" cribber. I definitely wouldn't
term him a "cribber" since I've never seen him do it and obviously he
doesn't make a habit of it.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
I DO have a yearling that cribs (she was quite ill as a foal and has
done so for most of her short life). If/when I sell her, she will
be noted as a cribber; I'm not the type of person that would try and
hide such a thing.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
Anyway, I'm sitting here just feeling totally bummed out. #ed_op#img src="richedit/smileys/Sad/4.gif"#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Don't beat yourself up over something you didn't know about, Dazzling! Although I would get a collar on that horse ASAP. Mine wears a Miracle Collar and doesn't crib at all with it on. Cribbing is NOT the end of the world, and it CAN be controlled, so don't give up hope.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#This is one of those subjects where people are on either side of the fence.....no one is sitting on the fence.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I personally couldn't care less if the horse cribs, yes the noise will bother me but I wouldn't shy away from a horse that I loved just because it cribs.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Hang tough, you will find someone who will slap a collar on it and love it.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Reminds me of when I recently had a potential new part-boarder trying out Snickers. I'd just finished telling her that you have to use a lot of leg on him, and what a gentleman he is under saddle.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#She asks for the canter. He bucks. #ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys//nervous.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys/Happy/11.gif"#ed_cl#Thanks guys. I totally forgot about this (been dealing with more "family crap").#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#The people who originally came to see him called me back that night and said they would take him. When I delivered him, he went into his new stall after a somewhat stressful trailer ride (1 1/2 hrs. by himself) and didn't do anything other than explore and then munch hay.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#My filly who #ed_op#EM#ed_cl#does#ed_op#/EM#ed_cl# crib would have been tearing the stall down with her teeth (if she hadn't ripped the side out of the trailer on the way there). *rolls eyes*#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Sooooo, two down and twenty-something to go!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
