I'm not into dressage at all... but I had the unique pleasure recently of attending a dressage clinic in support of my trainer, who was riding a very green mare named Gaby in a Politz clinic.
Kay Fontain is an NH trainer, and my personal mentor, so I was quite enthusiastic about going, though I expected the bree and cheeze crowd to be making all kinds of snide comments about her riding style...
And I couldn't have been more wrong.
Politz himself, who we had lunch with, proved to be, not only a very proper German gentleman, but also had a very genuine love of horses. One major bigtime wake up call for me was when he told Kay that she shouldn't be holding her horse back when Gaby wanted to go faster, but that Kay should encourage the horse to go even faster which was quite consistent with Kay's own training program.
Even if you're not into Dressage, which I most definately am not, if you have the opportunity to audit a Gerhard Politz clinic, do so, you won't be sorry you did.
