#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Heh, Lix. That helmet was brutal!! My head used to BOIL in that thing...no such thing as vented helmets back in the 70s. And I should've probably replaced it many times during those early years...I fell off a LOT back then. It *did* have a chin strap but it was only a thin strip of elastic. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#That first horse, Candy, used to dump me on a weekly basis. I had only been riding about 6 months at the time that pic was taken, and my instructor used to take us all out to the x-country course for our lessons. I wasn't jumping yet, so I was supposed to stand off to the side with Candy while all the other riders went over the jumps. Well, once the last horse was past us, Candy would freak out about being left behind and would start bucking and bolting, and I would come off and would have to walk all the way back to the barn. This happened EVERY WEEK for an entire summer!! I sure got good at learning how to fall off. I hated that mare and asked for a different horse every week...but they always put me on Candy #ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys/Sad/5.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Duke, the big black horse...I have no idea what breed he was but he was a big, strong brute (hence, the double bridle). I remember one show where I was jumping him and he deeked out right before a jump, at the last second, almost running down the judge!! He was the first horse I jumped a 3ft jump on though...at the time, that 3ft jump *felt* more like a 5ft jump. I really liked Duke...not many people could ride him because he was so big and strong. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Sundance, again, no idea of her breeding...but she sure was pretty wasn't she, with the dapples and *grey* mane?? Nice mare... #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Tara, I don't remember much about her. She was a little thing though...not much bigger than a pony. I didn't ride her a lot...she just happened to be available for that particular show. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Incidentally, the Duke, Candy and Sundance pics were all taken at the farm which is now Pride Stables, the therapeutic riding school where my QH lives. Pretty neat, eh?#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
