#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Last week we worked on leg yield and haunches in/travers.  Corey was introduced to half-pass at the trot too.  It took some getting used to the bend and what direction to go.  He did great for his first attempts...!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Image#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Image#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Here he is doing travers#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Image#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I believe the next two are half-pass#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Image#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Image#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT color=#0060bf#ed_cl#I just love that little horse, he is so cute!!  Did you get up on him again this week Patricia?  Man after seeing the royal dressage riders it's hard to contain all that enthusiasm #ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT color=#0060bf#ed_cl##ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT color=#0060bf#ed_cl#What is a half pass and a travers? I think I know what they are but not really sure of the technical term. #ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys/Teasing/3.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I post them so it inspires us all!  I guess it is working....It is SO much easier training on a well trained horse.  And that he is!  No I didn't get the opportunity to hop on last time busy cleaning a gazillion bridles or was it pulling manes....anyhow it is all worth it.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Well SP....travers in also known as haunches in.  The front quarters stay on the track and hind quarters come inside off the track, sort of around the inside leg.  It is actually one of the easier moves to perform as most horses like to travel with quarters in....#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#The half pass is usually done down the centre line.  You bend them in the direction you are going to travel and they laterally cross over on a gradual diagonal.  So if your on left rein, go centre line bend left and half pass.  Of course, this movements must be taught to the horse for them to be performed correctly.  Also of note, horses must be fit to be able to do some of the advanced moves, have a good longitudinal connection and be sharp to the aids.  It is a co-ordination of horse and rider and the horse being able to respond.  I was introducing the half-pass to our horse a while back but he is on hiatus now.  So he will gradually need his fitness level enhanced before attempting it again.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I hope you do start with a GOOD dressage coach.  That is key.  Although, riding on your own horse who is not trained like Maverick you will be doing more basic stuff that your horse will NEED.  Learning to keep him round, smooth transitions, sitting properly, using the aids correctly.  Can you tell I LOVE dressage.....#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Nice pics Patricia, its nice to be able to ride an already trained horse sometimes to get the connection and feeling of the movements done properl eh? I always like it. My aunt has an older arab mare, she is so wicked, she can do literally any dressage movement. If it werent for the fact that they bred her I would seriously try and get her in shape to show her dressage.  She has a bit of artheritis though too, but now I have some excersizes to help it. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Oh well... Maybe another time. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
When something goes wrong in a show, it's actually the best time because you learn from it. You ask yourself 'what can I do better?' When everything goes OK, you don't ask yourself that question --- ANKY
