I thought it would be time to tell all of you...I'm having a baby....tomorrow <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0"> <br /> <br />LOL. I take Family Studies, and we are being given babies (aka. eggs) to take care of this week. If we break it or crack it we lose 25% of our mark <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley5.gif" border="0"> And we have to carry it around everywhere with us...to class...to lunch...sports (that should be interesting!) If we are without our "baby" when the teacher walks by, then that looks like abuse or neglect. There will be some teachers who will not allow our children in class, so we have to find babysitters. <br /> <br />For Day 1 (Monday)- this day signifies when our baby is born. That night, the teacher wants us to get up every 2 hours to pretend to feed out child. This is so we can realize what really parents are going through. <br /> <br />I'm really excited, and also nervous! I don't want to harm my baby. I've got a gladware container with soft material surounding it. The baby will go in the centre. Then I'll be carrying a small bag that the container can fit into. Hopefully it'll be crack proof. <br /> <br />I'm still thinking of names... <br />&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Hmmm....Scrambled...Eggbert....Sunny Side...No Yolk...Cracked...Got any other ideas????

I did that last year!! We went in pairs, some people only had one "baby" while some had twins. Our teacher assigned the sex of our "children" and my partner and I got a girl. We carried our egg in a little box with a mint green knitted dress <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0"> to line the bottom for protection (also to dress our egg up should we have felt like it <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley8.gif" border="0">). As for names, I can't think of any egg type names (ie Eggbert), sorry. Good luck with it and have fun!!

I did this back at Counsellor-Training-Camp a few years ago! We got to decorate it with markers...and mine smudged all over, so i ended up calling it Smokey (instead of Smudgy!) Good luck with the names though <IMG src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0">
Good idea with the container, really helps! And put like cotton or paper inside the container as 'padding'.
Hint: Put your egg in the fridge at night...*just* in case it cracks/breaks, you won't have that nasty of a pile of rotten sh!t inside! I eventually broke mine..whoops, lol! (well most people broke theirs...and all the guys smashed theirs within 5 mins! guess it wasnt their typa stuff, throwing eggs around mustve been more fun <IMG src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0">)

haha sounds like fun terry... My friend did that class and they got dolls.
The dolls were horrible... Im sorry, but the dolls are nothing like real babies... They were just an annoyance, I think they were trying to deter kids from having teenage babies or something.
The one my friend had, you were supposed to put this key in its back whenever it started crying, and this thing cried all the time, and even if you put the key in it would go on for a really really long time. And loud.... It was horrible.
Im so glad I did not take that class.

I think it's a good exercise, since more and more teenage girls nowadays are having babies, and thinking it's okay.&nbsp; If carrying around a pretend "baby" discourages some of them from getting pregnant, then the exercise has some merit.
Having said that, I sure am glad that I didn't have to go through something like this in HS <IMG src="smileys/smiley11.gif" border="0">&nbsp;<IMG src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0">

Um, Xena, what makes you think that those screaming baby dolls are nothing like the real thing???!!!!&nbsp; I had a real one that did that for months....colic, ear infections, etc, etc.&nbsp; If only I had a key....<IMG src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0">&nbsp; You youngin's have noooooooooo idea how 'horrible' those little screamers can be, but they come with all that joy and wonder as well, right wildie and stronghold!?

hehe I remember doing this. At my school we did a week with flour babies (that we MADE in class) and then we each had to take home those electronic crying babies for the night. Scariest moment ever was when I had to give the baby back and the teacher checked the computer in the back to see if it was neglected. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley5.gif" border="0"> (It wasn't)!

There is no way on earth I would get up every 2 hours to check on an egg. A foaling mare, sure, but not an egg! Nobody has to convince me that babies are a 24/7 job.

Yabbut, Ruth, you're an ADULT...you KNOW that babies are a 24/7 commitment.&nbsp; I think that a lot of teen girls don't see the reality of raising and caring for a baby...which is why the exercise with the egg (or a bag of flour, or whatever they decide to use) is such a valuable one, IMO.&nbsp;
If going through this exercise convinces one or two girls who "just want a baby to looooove" that having a baby is not all sunshine and light and "Kodak Moments", then the exercise has done its job, no matter how lame it seems at the time.
Oh, and Eileen, I laughed out loud at your response.&nbsp; You crack me up (get it??) <IMG src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0">&nbsp; I'd do the same thing...boil it up and eat it for breakfast.&nbsp;

HEHE. I've choosen the name of Shelley. And its a girl, a beautiful little baby...lol. I'm actually enjoying it, and almost find myself rocking it to sleep <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0"> It sounds a little weird but it must be my parental instinct!! <br /> <br />I was thinking of hard boiling it, but I want to play fair. My babies in a gladware container surrounded by soft cushioning. And then its in a bag!! I've already accidently dropped it, but thankfully it didn't break!! Phew!! <edited><editID>Terry3025</editID><editDate>38398.4753703704</editDate></edited>
