Well the clinic called the test results regarding the cervical cancer are back they are inconculsive. They told me to wait another 6 months and get tested again, I'm thinking its time to go for a second opinion. This has been going on for a year now, I either want to know it there or its not. Why can't it be that simple?

I agree....being in the dark about it has to be no fun at all. I sincerely hope that you are fine and that they figure it out. A second opinion is always a good idea, especially if this is ongoing.

You need to know what's going on, so if there is a problem you can catch it now. I pray that you're fine, though.

I'd be going for a second oppinion. If you by chance have it then you really dont wanna wait 6 months and have it get worse or be totaly fine why worry about it for another 6 months...

DJ,
I can't believe it. How can they not tell the difference between a cancerous cell and a normal cell??? And to make you wait another 6 months is disgusting. Because if it is cancer that 6 months is crucial.
I would get the second opinion. Just to know that you ARE alright

I don't even know what "inconclusive" means Either there are cancer cells there or there aren't. Can't they tell??? I'm totally not getting this!
I'd be going back to my doctor and *demanding* an explanation of what "inconclusive" means and why they can't give you something more concrete to go on. By saying "come back in six months" what are they hoping for?? That the cancer cells will have developed MORE or that, if there are any, they'll magically disappear??
This would have me asking more questions and demanding answers, I'm afraid. It's too easy for doctors to just brush us off. You gotta be on their tails if you want anything done. Very annoying
You need to get some more "conclusive" answers, DJ.

I ditto Eileen, DJ. Don't wait. The six months will be hell anyway, 'cause it will always be on your mind. You need conclusive answers. Start by getting *a lot* more information from your current doctor, and then decide from there.

Sooo who are the Dr.s in charge at the health unit, I would guess that they are family practitioners as well....I still say see a specialist, call now. If you have to get your own Dr's o.k. then do that, insist on it. don't take no for an answer any Dr. worth his salt would not hesitate to put his/her patient at ease by signing paper or calling in a recomendation or referral to another Dr. MHO anyway.

If you feel uncomfortable with your Family Dr then change him. My Dr changed from family to stress management Dr or something like that. Needless to she she left her practice and left her patients with no doctor. I found one doctor(man) that I hated, switched to another who was more interested in his Botox and cosmetic stuff then his family practice. I finally found my current doctor and I had to wheel and deal my way in. They were only taking new patients with families(babies) and who didn't already have a family doctor. I have no babies and I had a family doctor. Thank God she took me as a patient. The point I'm trying to make, yes there is one, is keep trying. Its your Health.
DJ I do hope everthing does well for you!!

From what I've gathered in researching this, it seems your cells are abnormal and whether they are actually cancerous or not they should be coming out???? Not an expert but I have been looking this stuff up. I will PM you regarding a Dr. in Barrie. BTW my Dr.'s office finally called yesterday and my cells are being removed at the end of March, no lifting restrictions, whew.

Ruth, thanks and thats exactly the problem they keep coming up saying they are abnormal and they tell me with time they might go away or become cancerous and this time they said they didnt get the right cells to tell.
My pet peeve is when you know theres a problem why would you be extra sure to get the right cells.
If in the long run they turn out to be cancerous and something could have been done sooner the clinics arse is going to be grass.

Unfortunately there is a lot of waiting when it comes to this.....I went through this myself not too long ago and from beginning to end it took almost 2 years. I had the initial PAP with my family doctor....it came back abnormal, they also said in 6 months they would do the test again. Apparently it is quite common that you will have an abnormal result as many things can cause this. I went back and had another PAP 6 months later....again abnormal so then I was sent to a specialist within the hospital. They did a different kind of PAP and during that test they saw some areas of concern and immediately did a biopsy.....even after the biopsy the doctor felt that it still wasn't cancer cells and was just doing the biopsy to be safe so I wasn't even concerned or waiting for the results.....well 2 weeks later I got the results and....it was cancer cells. I went through 3 minor surgeries in the following year and finally after the last one on Dec 2/2004 the cancer cells are gone....I need to go for a PAP through the specialist every 6 months over the next 2 years to make sure all stays clear. I know how you feel with all the waiting.... it's not fun. Good luck with everything and try to not stress....I know it's hard not to though.

I can sympathize DJ. A lot of women have this problem.

Cells can fall into 3 different categories: abnormal (neoplasmic) which are slightly changed, pre-cancerous and cancerous. Abnormal cells can be caused by many things: stress, viruses, chemicals (including BC). They have to be watched incase they start to progress to the more serious changes.

But I definitely recommend seeking a new doctor who doesn't turn you off. A bad doctor can kill you, literally.

DJ, its time to get your arse in gear and get yourself a family doctor!!!!

Clinics are there for the quick fixes and for convenience, they will never have the time to take care of you and to get to know you the way a GP does.

You can go to www.health.gov.on.ca & there is a list of doctors accepting patients, Im looking for the exact link right now.

As Foxie says -- ITS YOUR HEALTH!

DJ is going to the health unit, not a walk-in clinic. I have been to that particular health unit myself and have no complaints. Getting a family doctor is almost impossible in this town.

I hear ya!! You should try Oakville/Burlington!!! I found one through a receptionist who was a family friend. I hated him. The next one I called and harassed my old Doctors office and they gave me the number of the Botox/GP doctor. The last one, perfect doctor, I was voulunteering at the hosiptal and found out the info like that. Then I had to beg/pled and I made the receptionist laugh before she booked me an app.
Call your local Hosptial and they should have a list of doctors accepting new patients in your area.
I don't know too much about what your going through but it sounds like there are very knowlegeable ladies here who do.

It might be impossible, but you have to try and find someone, a friend's doctor, anyone that can get you in and can get you referrals to a Gyno, or another Specialist that can truly help you with your problem. Or See if the Health Centre can get you a Referral to a Gyno!

It is impossible to find a doctor sometimes, But there are also GPs setting up practices all the time. Phonecalls cant hurt, and tell them that you have abnormal cells and need to get in to a doctor so you can get help! there Has to be a doctor out there that wont turn you away.
