What can you tell me? Good stuff? Bad?

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# Since I'm on here and pretty much ready for school, I wanted something to keep me pre-occupied. I think Dee and Stronghold would be the ones to ask (sorry if there are more! Mom suggested asking these two not too long ago) #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# I'm quite interested in getting into Massage Therapy (human). I have done a little bit of research and I've found out that Ontario and British Columbia have the highest standards in Canada (B.C. in all of North America) as far as courses and expectations go. I think I've found a college I like out in B.C. and my idea was to go to B.C. to get certified and then when I come back to Ontario I know all I have to do is take 1 test to get my certificate to practice in Ontario. (Learned that from my Science teacher - his sister is one and did the opposite)#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# Now my question is, what (in your opinion) are the benefits/downsides to massage therapy? #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Pearmare -- Im not sure where you're located, but I looked into becoming a Certified Massage Therapist a few years ago.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#BR#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://www.omta.com/"#ed_cl#http://www.omta.com/#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Was a really Helpful Site for me...It's the Ontario Massage Therapy Association. You look up schools in your area and jazz, and if you wanted to take a look at #ed_op#A href="http://www.workopolis.com"#ed_cl#www.workopolis.com#ed_op#/A#ed_cl# or #ed_op#A href="http://www.monster.ca"#ed_cl#www.monster.ca#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#you can see what kind of jobs are out there for Massage Therapists.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I think you're still in highschool ? If you are, you could always look into doing a co-op with a Massage Therapist to decide if it's a long term thing you'd want to do.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#The Downside i've heard is you can get Arthritis in your hands around 35-40, but the girl that does the CMT above my hair dresser only works 3 days a week and makes as much money as someone who works a normal 40 hour week. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I hope this helps you a bit!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

As I think most people know I am a Bowen Therapist and I work with
people and animals. It has some similarities to massage so I can
comment about it a bit. Bowen is far less taxing on the therapists body
than giving a massage so I expect to be able to treat into old age
unless I win the lottery and retire somewhere warm with horses #ed_op#img src="richedit/smileys//smiley2.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#

Massage therapists have all sorts of options of where to work -
chiropractor's offices, health clinics, sports clubs etc. or you could
open your own practice. As with anything that involves being self
employed it takes time to build up a clientelle. This would be easier
in massage than Bowen because massage is better known.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

I love working with, and helping, people and animals. It is an
extremely rewarding career for me from that aspect although financially
it isn't that great yet . Having said that, word is starting to spread
about how great Bowen is and how good people feel after only a couple
of sessions. You do meet the odd person who is difficult to deal with
on some level. Sometimes when you are not well and in pain you just
tend to be that way. It is very rewarding to see them change from visit
to visit.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

I have to be very careful not to take on the problems of my clients.
The strain on my body and energy was huge at the beginning but I am
getting much better at taking care of myself. I also used to get very
caught up in wondering how the person or animal was doing after the
treatment. I am getting better at that as well but I do care very much
about helping them and look forward to their feedback.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

Hours can be erratic for me but if you were in a clinic they might be
better. I also do a lot of travelling but that is for the horses and I
truly don't mind. On snowy days I cancel, I would arrive too stressed
to be of any use.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

I really do love what I do. I used to work in a job where I just used
my brain and now I work with my heart and with intuition. I never in a
million years imagined that I could handle working on another person's
body. Mind you, with Bowen they stay dressed so it isn't such a big
thing. It is something to consider though.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
Hope this helps a bit.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Elizabeth - that sounds interesting, but I'd never heard of Bowen therapy. Are there any websites where I can learn more - just curious for now and I like to keep an open mind. Once had someone use "healing touch" on my knee and it worked! (Being a Morris dancer is hard on the knees)#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
