vin number checks?

Postby xena_n_joss » Mon Nov 21, 2005 7:11 am

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#does anyone know any good sites that are free where you can get a vin number summary? My bf has been having alot of trouble with his car and he didnt check the vin number before he got it, he went on the dealerships good work that the car was fine. He has only had it a few months, he first noticed that the driver side door rubbed really close on the front panel.... red light number one.... #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#He just took it in to my own machanic to fix it (he took it to the dealershp first aand they gave him a quote to fix it which was way too much) and was upset when he got it back because our machanic told him there is something else wrong with it which the dealership didnt tell him. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#And the car has a definate pull to the right side, it had it before, but my bf thought it would be fixed with the tie bars being fixed, but it is not. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I had found a couple sites where you can put the vin number in but all it brings up is that it is a 2000 subaru gt awd... And then it says that there are 10 records on the file but you cant get them unless you pay like 30$AM... I told my mom and she seems to think 10 records on a 2000 car is alot, I realize some of those are ownership changes but my bf was told when he got it that it had been owned by one person who was a policeman... #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I feel bad for my bf because I think he got the short end of the stick on this one... #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I have yet to find a free site that you can check vins. 10 is a lot for a 2000 I think. My car is a 94 and only had 2 when I bought it 4 years ago (still has 2 btw! :P) In that case, I really think its worth paying the 30 bux to find out exactly what he is getting into. That way you know if it is worth keeping the car or selling it. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Just so you know, the car pulling to the right is mostly likely allignment. Have him look into that otherwise he will need new tires before he knows it!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#HTH - good luck!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Do you know any police officers? or no anyone who knows any police officers? They can run vin numbers. We had my bf's best friend, who is a cop, run my car before I bought it.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Never used them myself but you could give these a shot:#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://www.is-it-a-lemon.com/carfax.html"#ed_cl#http://www.is-it-a-lemon.com/carfax.html#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://www.vldb04.org/checkhistorycarserialnumbers.html"#ed_cl#http://www.vldb04.org/checkhistorycarserialnumbers.html#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#thanks... My mom said that same thing that 10 is alot. I will pass the info on to my bf about pulling being an allignment thing. When he took it to the dealership they told him that fixing the tie rods would stop it from doing that. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I think they were full of crap though. I think I will tell him just to pay it, otherwise he may be spending tons of money on a lemon. And I like my machanic so I dont really appreciate him saying he is a bad machinic because his car is still bad... lol. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I wonder if you cal the police office if they will do it over the phone?#ed_op#BR#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#if the car is "pulling" to the left or right, yes, it's usually the alignment.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#what type of dealership was this? a reputable, big name one (ir: chevy, dodge, etc), or one of those side of the orad, come to my office - its in the trailer type of places........#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#regardless, report them. they have sold the car under false pretenses & they ought to be on the hook for all repairs. nless they sold if "as is" as your BF didin't bother to get it checked out prior to putting his money down.....but they still ought to disclose any mechanical problems with it at the time of purchase.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#It was bought at the Subaru dealership in our area. He said they told him there was nothing wrong with it. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#by allignment do you mean allignment in the frame? Or something else? My machanic was supposed to allign it after he repaired the tie rods... It still pulls though... And we have been using this guy for forever and never had any problems. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Yeah...doesn't sound like a tie rod issue to me. The only other thing is might be is unevenly worn tires (which you would be able to see by looking at them) or maybe a dragging brake, but chances are its the alignment. So, did your mechanic fix the tie rods or did the dealership?? If the dealership did it, I would ask your mechanic about an alignement and have him test drive it first. If that is the problem, I would take that bill back to the dealership and raise heck!!!! #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Maybe you could give your bf the vin money for an xmas gift! :P#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#i'd be taking it back toute suite & telling them to fix every little thing. if they sold it to him as "nothing wrong with it" then they are at full fault for misleading him & misrepresenting the product....if there is one thing in those papers about it needing repairs, or haivng it checked out & he waived that - well, he's SOL.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
