When I last competed, I was in the very enviable position of being only
a 5 min. drive for the two venues that were holding a "series"
competition. It was really quite nice to be able to finish my
test(s), go home, take care of my horse, check on things at home and
then return to pick up my test, ribbon and/or prize.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

As a competitor, I certainly appreciate every prize dollar and award I
have received. If it is clearly stated in the prize list that
competitors are to be present (and mounted or not) for awards
ceremonies (and when they will be held; at lunch, after Class #32,
etc.) I have found that 90% of those receiving prizes will be there (or
their rep if no mount is required).#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

Many, many years ago, I had a 3-4 hour wait at a year-end championship
(over 1 hour of which was spent sitting on my horse as there were rain
delays and trouble with the sound system and we kept getting called to
the ring and then sent back). Anyway, it was clearly set out that
all Champions and Reserves were to be mounted to receive their awards
at the END of the show day. After getting my award, I had to
untack, get dressed in non-show clothes and haul 2 1/2 hours
home. It was a very long day, but definitely worth it.
