Postby xena_n_joss » Mon Apr 04, 2005 4:52 pm

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Has anyone ever taken alesse or a similiar pill non-stop to miss your period? I have been looking it up and alot of medical sites ect have said you can take it non-stop for up to 3 months without having your period.... then you are supposed to stop for the prescribed week and start over. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Has anyone done this? Or does anyone know any bad effects this could have? I have not found anything other than its not recommended for smokers ect, but the pill itself isnt really recommended for smokers anyways... #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I do this on a regular basis.  I do find sometimes I will start spotting so that is when I take my week break.  Other than that I keep going back to back.  My Doctor told me I could keep going for 6 months if my body will let me.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Xena, I've been doing what you described for at least 3 years now!  I only have my period every 3 months.  I've never had a problem!  The first few months I did get a bit of spotting (verrrry minimal) but I don't think I've gotten any spotting now for the past 2 years!  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I know it's not for everyone, and alot of people feel more secure having their period every month, but for me, personally, I couldn't go back.  I love my 3 month routine.  I've read that there are health advantages to doing this also.  I can find you those articles if you want.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Oh, and yes, I am on Alesse.  #ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys//smiley1.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I would like to hear more information on the benefits of this. I've done this going on holidays (starting a new pack) etc, and have been considering doing this on a three month routine myself. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#It is possible on any pill horsemad.  All you do is when you are done your 21 pills, just start taking the next pack right away.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#There is little, (if any), negative info on doing this which is great.  More just "it's not for everyone".  But it actually has advantages.  And is recommended for endometriosis.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#It's just one of those things that 'in the dark' I think.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Most people are uncomfortable with this because they feel it's not natural but in reality, they say that your period on the pill is not natural to begin with.  I even read once that they introduced the 7 day 'period' while taking the pill way back, only because it made women more at ease with taking the pill,  not because you acutally need a period.  Of course, I can't find this article right now but it was a news thing.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I found some other good ones though:#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0846/is_5_22/ai_95540535"#ed_cl#http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0846/is_5_22/ai_95540535#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://www.health24.com/news/Contraception/1-900,19688.asp"#ed_cl#http://www.health24.com/news/Contraception/1-900,19688.asp#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://www.komotv.com/news/story.asp?ID=24025"#ed_cl#http://www.komotv.com/news/story.asp?ID=24025#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://varsity.utoronto.ca:16080/archives/121/oct10/feature/theend.html"#ed_cl#http://varsity.utoronto.ca:16080/archives/121/oct10/feature/theend.html#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#If you want more info, just go in google and type "skipping placebo pills".  Alot of info will come up and it helps to understand how it all works.  :)#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

I've read that a pill such as you describe is going to become available for anyone. It is not meant to be a for BC but to eliminate menstration in children and anyone else who does not want to become pregnant. It's really an pain in the neck to deal with every month for naught. Especially the young kids. I'm all for it even tho surgery at age 36 did it for me.

If you can do it now and your doctor says it's okay I'd go for it.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Hmm, well, I agree with you Eventer-at-heart that talking to the Dr. first hand is probably the best thing to do.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#As for causing endometriosis... I would think not.  They acutally #ed_op#EM#ed_cl#prescribe #ed_op#/EM#ed_cl#the pill to #ed_op#EM#ed_cl#treat #ed_op#/EM#ed_cl#endometriosis so if it was harmful, they would not prescribe it to treat the conditon.  It actually helps endometriosis alot (not cure it but alleviate the symptoms considerably).  We have a history of endometriosis in the family.  My Mom was put on BC for it (years ago).  So I'm wondering if you perhaps misunderstood? #ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys/Thinking/3.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Maybe there are other disadvantages that I don't know.  But I have alot of difficulty finding considerably negative info on this topic. It all seems pretty optimisic and like I said before, there are actually benefits (controlling endometriosis being one of them!)#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#As for depression, never heard of that one and can't find anything on the internet regarding that that would be specific to taking the pill consecutively.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I have to agree that not everything we read on the internet is true.  But to say that everything is false?  I don't think so.  The views and studies all say the same thing and some of the sources mentioned in the articles I posted were from Universities. I wouldn't say everything is completely unreliable when it all says the same thing.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Either way, talking to your Dr is probably the best thing Xena!  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Here's some articles regarding the role of the pill in endometriosis!  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://www.womens-health.co.uk/endo4.asp"#ed_cl#http://www.womens-health.co.uk/endo4.asp#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#BR#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://womenshealth.about.com/od/endometriosis/a/endopainrelief_2.htm"#ed_cl#http://womenshealth.about.com/od/endometriosis/a/endopainrelief_2.htm#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#BR#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/birth_control/100605"#ed_cl#http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/birth_control/100605#ed_op#/A#ed_cl##ed_op#BR#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#ff007f#ed_cl#Ya, my mom has it too... and depression, which made me prone to both. Xena ask your mom if she's prone to it, but if she had either you'd probably already know. The pill can't cause Endometriosis but not getting a regular period can off set your cycle, which can add to issues if you already have them. Really, the best plan is to go see your doctor #ed_op#IMG src="/richedit/smileys/classic.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#ff007f#ed_cl##ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#ff007f#ed_cl#GOOD LUCK!#ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#ff007f#ed_cl##ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/cliparts/Other/3.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I have endo & I can tell you they don't know how it is caused.  Not being able to conceive is a symptom of endo but is not desease itself.  Endometriosis is when the endometrium tissue grows outside of the uterus.  Problem with that is as you cycle so does this tissue too.  This tissue can create a lot of scaring affect too.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I can also tell you as an endo sufferer that back to back pills are the first line of treatment.  It usually also makes your cycle less painfull with a lighter blood flow.  I have been doing this now for about 2 years.  This was a choice I made to not have to do surgery which can introduce more problems in the long run for some endo sufferers.  I can tell you know my cycle is nothing how it was like before.  I am no longer over dosing on pain pills to make it through.  Once your body is regulated on the pill it also does help mood swings too.  If you do still have problems def. talk to your Doctor about this as there are so many different pills on the market that you can be switched to.  Pain management itself can also have anti-depressants used in its treatment.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
