Dizziness not going away *Update*

Postby Terry3025 » Sat Apr 30, 2005 10:55 am

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I've had a bad case of dizziness over the past 3 weeks.  I've missed several days of school and still feel crummy.  My dizziness isn't the whole world is spinning, its more of a head very heavy nauseous feeling.  During this time I was also getting ear problems.  I went to the doctor and he said that it may be my jaw.  He said that during the night I may clench my jaw which is causing the problem to feel like its in my ears.  He also said that my ear looks fine.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Now that I've had two days of school off, I feel very weak and tired.  I was doing some research on the internet and found Viral Labyrinthitis.  It is an inner ear problem that causes dizziness, nausea, etc. There is no cure you just have to let it run its course.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#This is no fun.  I don't know what to do.  I only have about a month left of school before I graduate and really don't want to miss anymore.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Can you help me??????#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I do know that there is medication for ear and dizziness problems. I would go back to your doctor and tell him how important it is for you to get your school year finished. Hopefully he will help you more than he has. Good luck.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

I agree with getting a second opinion. I have learned that time and again, the hard way.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#If this has been going on for 3 weeks then your doctor should do something about it. Can you ask to be sent to a specialist? Missing so much school really isn't good. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I hope you get better soon!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

I second the 'second opinion' and I must say, I have had my ears
candled before and it is great...I noticed a difference immediately.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
I also tend to grind my teeth a lot in my sleep, but despite headaches,
I have never really had any other problems, and certainly not nausea
etc., I sure hope you feel better soon!#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

The doctor should definitely be able to prescribe you something.

I have Meniere's Disease (an imbalance in the fluids in your ears...you get sick really suddenly and very dizzy). Sometimes, I will be that way for only 1 day, other times, a week or two..depends, each time it's different.

Anyway, many times the doctor has given me something for a dizzy/nauseating (SPELLING??) feeling.

And I know how you feel, Terry. I missed a lot of school before the Doc figured out what was wrong, and it's not a great feeling, to be dizzy all the time. :?

Hope you feel better soon.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I work in medicine every day and so I have some thoughts.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#First, it's pretty rare for a virus to not get killed off by your body by 3 weeks - if it is truly a virus and you've had it for 3 weeks, then you have a weak immune system, but that is exceedingly rare and I doubt that.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I strongly suggest you insist on your doctor sending you to an ENT specialist (ears, nose and throat).  Sometimes, sinus problems lead to blockages of the inner ear and thus upsetting the drainage system - too little or too much fluid build up causes dizziness.  Your eustachian tubes act as drainage for your sinuses.  If there is inflammation in the eustachian tubes, the drainage is interrupted and pressure builds (can be painless) and then suddenly you're dizzy. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Sometimes, dizziness can be a prodrome to migraine... do you get headaches at all?  Some people get dizzy, or smell strange odours, see flashing lights, see jagged lightning bolts in their vision, have loss of vision, facial drooping and numbness, or searing nerve-pain around their head as a prodrome to migraine.  Not all symptoms at once, usually your body picks one or 2 things and usually sticks with it as your warning prodrome.  Sometimes, the prodrome never results in a painful headache. Birth control pills can exacerbate this problem.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Sometimes, a build-up of wax can cause dizziness.  Candling might help this problem. There is nothing much you can do to prevent wax build up.... just get your ears flushed periodically or candling. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Neurologists deal with Meniere's disease.  It is a waxing and waning upset in the middle ear and causes dizziness from mild to severe.  My cousin has this problem (severe) and when it flares, she ends up crawling on the floor because she will walk into walls, not to mention how sick to the stomach she gets.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Labyrinthitis can also be the problem to dizziness.  There are certain head tilting exercises an ENT specialist can talk to you about that counteracts it and helps you to put a halt to it.  The exercises counter the flow of fluid in your ears.  Only time helps this one. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Candling would not help Meniere's, labyrinthitis or eustachian inflammation.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Start with an ENT specialist.  If the ENT can't help you, he or she will refer you to a neurologist, if necessary.  Whatever you decide, if anything, go back to your doctor.  3 weeks is plenty of time to have it settle on its own and now you need extra measures.  You could always walk into the ER to get a faster consult.  #ed_op#IMG src="http://forums.equestrianconnection.com/richedit/smileys//smiley2.gif"#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I have been feeling  a lot better, but just recently (today) I feel extremely sick to my stomach.  Its more of a weird feeling in my throat and mouth.  I went to the doctors last night and he had the results of my x-rays.  He said that my chest x-ray was fine but my nasal one showed blockages.  In the right sinus area there was swelling and a bit of fluid in it, which he said would cause all of my symptoms.  I had been on Amoxicillin for about 2 weeks, and hadn't felt the dizziness as often.  I guess that I'll see how I continue to feel, and if it keeps on reacurring then we'll most likely go to the ER to see what they can do.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Note:  The dizziness isn't a when you shake your head your dizzy or when you stand up, its more of a tired, nauseous feeling.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Thanks for all the help again, #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Have your iron levels been checked? A friend of mine was having spells of dizziness/nausea, and it turned out she was severely anemic. Worth checking out anyways.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Hey Terry...glad to hear you are starting to feel a little better.

At the neurologists, it depends what "tests" they have planned for you.

When I went 2 years ago for my dizziness, they took pictures of my brain with some strange machine that you sit in front of, and then mush your face into. (lol sorry for the technical terms).

Then they did a CT Scan and finally, they inject some dye into my system and leave you for a while, then take some more pictures.

If you get an EEG they will put gel on your head and then lie you down, flash lights and things like that and test your reaction to all of it...

If you want to know anything, pm me, because this is a little hard to explain unless you do it in detail....

Good luck, I'm sure everything will turn out great. :)

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Seeing a neurologist is a good thing. Hopefully, they'll get to the bottom of it and you'll get better. Nothing worse than feeling yucky all the time.  Keep us posted, 'kay? #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

dizziness

Postby tackforu » Tue Jun 21, 2005 1:46 pm

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#My sister and a friend of mine have had dizziness, sometimes its depressing and unbearable and they are both frustrated with it, some days are good, some not so good. Doesn't sound like a pleasant thing to have, basically its like being very drunk without the hang over. By the sounds of it there is very little that can be done and it does have to run it's course. Good luck hope you feel better.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Have you tried a chiropractor? These guys are amazing. Also, my bf
wears a dental appliance at night because he clenches his teeth too.
When he doesnt wear it he gets terrible headaches. So maybe get an
appointment with a dentist?

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Update:#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I have been feeling better for the past little while, but guess what's back :(  I have an appointment with a anti-aging clinic to test my hormone levels, and everything else in my blood, a neurologist appointment, whenever they call.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#However, I think we may have another clue.  My friend had the same symptoms as I about 10 years ago and it was her wisdom teeth pinching a nerve.  I'm 18, so they should be coming in soon.  Is that a possibility???#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Hopefully we can get this figured out before September!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Terry...first off why are you on so many antibiotics? They won't work for a virus(if you have one). I'm only given Zitromax when I have a sinus infection (bacterial infecton). BTW Zitromax is really good stuff!!! It's bad for your immune system to keep taking antibiotics when they really aren't needed.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Sucks when your sick and the doctors are just taking a stab in the dark cuz they have no idea. I think someone said Vertigo, which was what I thought of first. My friend had it for like 6 months but it was brought on by her allergies which really stuffed her up and she ended up with fluid in her ears, really bad sinus blockage. The doctor had to drain her ears in his office -ouch-. It was a combo of everything. Sounds like you have this, if they told you that your sinus was bad. Try a nose spray. Maybe Nasontex(sp?) I have bad sinuses from my allergies so I use Nasontex and an allergy pill everyday to keep stuff unblocked. Only in the summer.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Are you under stress? Anxiety attacks can cause these symptoms too.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Hope you feel better soon!!!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
