weight loss ideas/tips/suggestion despite being off my feet?

Postby Infamousluna » Sun May 29, 2005 4:16 pm

So I have been dealing with this Achille's tendon thing for two weeks
now, and still have several (5-7) weeks to go, but I really would like
to be losing weight and staying somewhat active, the catch of course is
that I am not able to flex my ankle at all, and am supposed to be 'off
my foot'.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
That said, are there any low-impact ideas for losing weight without further damaging my tendon?#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

P.S riding w.out stirrups isn't an option yet because of luna being off, and because of my orthodics.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

Thanks in Advance!~#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Swimming is low impact.  Also you might be able to do cycling.  Weight lifing will be fine.  Good Luck!!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Swimming would be a really good option, come to think of it I might add that to my routine a couple of days a week if my schedule will allow.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Very good aerobic exercise.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Hope your ankle is better soon.  Are you seeing a physiotherapist at some point?#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Weight training is the very best weight-loss tool, because it actually increases your metabolism (muscle burns more calories than fat). There are lots of lifting exercises you can do without needing to be on your feet. Why don't you hire a personal trainer to set you up with a program? It doesn't cost much for one or two sessions, and you'll maybe get other ideas from them as well. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Swim! It's the best low-impact exercising you could do. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#You can also weight lift, or what about crunches? Don't need feet for that.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Stretching and simple exorcises with one of those exercise balls are
low impact, you don't have to use your legs much, plus they often
improve balence and core strength....as does yoga. Maybe try those...

Thanks everyone! Those are some great ideas so far...I'll have to check
with the Doc if I can swim or not, because that may still be too much
for the ankle...and definetly I cannot cycle yet :(  but doing
some crunches, and weights and even the ball might be the ticket. #ed_op#br#ed_cl#
Keep the ideas coming ;)#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
