I've been very impressed with how you all suport each other in your weight loss/getting fit goals on this board, and would like to officially join the club. Today my bf and I joined the Y (and man, are they nice--and cheap--in Toronto! They'll even provide you with a personal trainer and dietician!), and today I started my fitness program. I've known that I've had to do it for years now--ever since I started my PhD and put on around 30 lbs--but nothing but riding horses has ever made me want to work my body. BUT, my coach has now ordered me to get my cardio and endurance up for the show season, so I might as well drop the extra poundage while I'm at it.
So, here are the deets: I now weigh 159 (weighed myself at the gym--though I don't know how much of that can be attributed to leg and butt muscle; I'll have to ask the trainer). I'd like to lose around 20 lbs. I'm trying to watch what I eat, but I constantly give in to cravings, particularly after a long day at the barn, and I'm starving, haven't had dinner and have to drive an hour to get home. Then the Wendy's lights beckon on that long, dark highway home and I invariably give in... The other problem is low blood sugar; if it drops, then I have to eat something, and, of course, I always go for the bad stuff. So for those of you who have cravings and are driving around a lot, do you have any tips for me?
Plus, what have you been doing at the gym to get in shape (and lose the pounds)? Anything that has worked particularly well for you? (And keep in mind that I'm 32, so my metabolism is NOTHING like it used to be...)
