Paint Stallion

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#What do all of you paint lovers (or likers...lol) think of this stallion? I really like him, but I may be biased since he is the father of my filly and Leo (one of my training projects). He produces nice babies (straight legs) suitable for english or western, and he's being trained for reining currently. I was thinking of breeding my pony mare (the one that just foaled) next year or the year after, and I was thinking of breeding to him, but I am not sure if the outcome would be nice. There are other stallions around, including a 1/2 arab and a tobiano pinto pony, but with him, I can breed for free and I like him already. SO...all of you unbiased people, I'd really appreciate your input!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#IMG src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/ShezaPerfectAngel/Apollo.jpg"#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#IMG src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/ShezaPerfectAngel/Apollo2.jpg"#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#PS...just for the record, I have permission to put these pictures up....#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

I'm very picky on stallions.. My own stud i love but we will be gelding him this year likely, due to not needing a stallion anymore, we are really down to one or two paint mares as my TB mares, one of which is my studs mom are being bred to a nice trakehner this fall...#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#Also what are his bloodlines? his temperment, your mares build and temperment, and what kind of foal are you looking for? a baby with the potential to be a versatile horse or one that might lean strongly towards on particular discipline. And is he Tobiano, Overo or Tovero, and your mare is she paint? and if so is she solid or paint markings?#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#I know lots of questions but i can't really answer your question without a lil more info.... Imean from the two pictures he looks decent and you say he throws nice legs, and from the sound of it good temperments also. And if he is going for reining he mustn't be a huge boy. Personally all the reiners i know and myself usually like them about 15 hh give or take a tad for reining and that sort of pattern work.#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/TD#ed_cl##ed_op#/TR#ed_cl##ed_op#TR UNSELECTABLE="on" hb_tag="1"#ed_cl##ed_op#TD style="FONT-SIZE: 1pt" height=1 UNSELECTABLE="on"#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV id=hotbar_promo#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/TD#ed_cl##ed_op#/TR#ed_cl##ed_op#/TBODY#ed_cl##ed_op#/TABLE#ed_cl#
Being a mom is a wonderful job... being mom to a horse crazy lil boy means combining two things i adore!!!

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I guess I was kind of skimpy on the info, sorry...#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#He's 16hh, so he is fairly tall. His sire is King Leos Montana and I pasted his pedigree below. He is double homozygous for the black and tobiano genes. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#He has a great temperament, and he throws equally english and western babies, mostly depending on the mare. My mare is 14hh, built like a small QH/Welsh, but we're not sure what she is actually. She also has a great temperament, but not the nicest movement. He has really nice movement, so I'm hoping that the foal would acquire some of it. I am looking to get an english-type foal, but not specifically dressage/hunter/jumper...just a nice trillium-level show horse to sell. I will try to find better side pics for you to see....gimme a little while! Hope this is better info, let me know if there's anything else you all want to know.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#TABLE border=0#ed_cl##ed_op#TBODY#ed_cl##ed_op#TR#ed_cl##ed_op#TD #ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I am curious as to why you pick out a quarter horse as opposed to TB or warmblood ??#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Well, I really like this stallion, because I like his temperament and what he throws, and I also like colored horses. He is minimal white, and tends to throw that. He also tends to throw high stockings, which I find flashy. He is built a lot like a WB, but the stud fee is much less (I have a free breeding, long story), plus he's nearby and I know that my mare would be well cared for at the barn while she's being bred. However, like I said before, I am biased towards this stallion because I know him, so I *may* be overlooking faults that others may see. There are other studs in the area, so he's not my only option, and I am not looking for a high-priced reg'd foal (my mare is not reg'd). Just a nice even-tempered child's horse/pony to train and sell. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Edited to correct some spelling....I will try to get better/more pics tomorrow and add that his name is PQR Im Apollo...lol#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Now he has some decent lines mainly on his sires side, Mainly with the War Leo Bars part. The rest of the names at least aren't well known to me, but i'm a west coast girl so main lines i know are BC,AB,sask, and MB.. and western states.. #ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#Now while his better movement might improve your mares, you said hers wasn't spectacular, there is a chance, a very large chance that it won't..Also More often than not a foal will mature to a height closer to that of it's dam rather than that of it's sire. Now i'm sure you might have said it already, but how athletic is this stallion? I mean yes he is being trained for reining, but is he getting the stuff quick and well? is he able to sit back on his haunches for stops and turns without to much help from the rider? or is it taking a lot of time for him to learn to shift his weight back over his haunches more?#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#Also what is the athletic ability of your mare that you are looking at breeding to him? is she well built, proportioned etc?#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#And hey as to those that will wonder why you are looking at a paint rather than a tb or WB.... all my paints have some major TB blood in them (to see them go to #ed_op#A href="http://www.freewebs.com/kobaufarms/"#ed_cl#www.freewebs.com/kobaufarms/#ed_op#/A#ed_cl# ) and quite often the qh/paint gives some of the mellow (with the right breeding that is) that many ppl are looking for for their young riders.#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#I know i just added more questions... but hey i'm a curious person and i really like to make you think when it comes to something like this....#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/TD#ed_cl##ed_op#/TR#ed_cl##ed_op#TR UNSELECTABLE="on" hb_tag="1"#ed_cl##ed_op#TD style="FONT-SIZE: 1pt" height=1 UNSELECTABLE="on"#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV id=hotbar_promo#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/TD#ed_cl##ed_op#/TR#ed_cl##ed_op#/TBODY#ed_cl##ed_op#/TABLE#ed_cl#

To me, there are two choices when it comes to breeding. You can breed
for commercial value/resale....OR you can breed for your own personal
use.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
If you are looking at re-sale, you NEED to be picky...you want a
quality foal that a buyer is going to want to look at. So start with
critically evaluating your mare. How is her confirmation? What are her
weak points? Is her temperment something you want to pass on?#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
Then choose a stud to compliment/improve her weaker points. To me, this
stud looks good and the sire's names are familiar. But the pics aren't
very good confirmation shots, so it's hard to judge. You also want to
look at his babies. Does he correct the dam's faults on them? How are
their temperments??#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
If you're breeding for your own use, well, you can do all of the above
as well...but you don't have to be as totally picky the way you are if
this baby is only for the purpose of selling.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
To me, there is nothing wrong with choosing a paint over a WB stud for
those sports. Some people want something flashy and versatile.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Kobau, I won't get offended with critisisms, I just want to know what other more experienced breeders think. He is a very athletic stallion, slides well (no skid plates yet) and is learning the spin. He has been under saddle for 2 months and he knows how to wtc, spin, stop (no rein pressure, just seat) and is starting lead changes. He is VERY smart. Just for teh record, he comes from PQR farms in AB somewhere. His sire is a "big" name in reining in germany (he was sold there from AB for $$$$$$$). I couldn't say whether or not he corrects faults that the mares may have, because teh mares there are not rideable, and all have correct conformation. He does/did improve attitude though, because one mare is a real b*tch and her foal off of him is a darling, but her foal off of another stallion has her attitude. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#As for my mare, her movement is nice, but not stunning. She is a pony and moves like one. I have not done much with my mare because she was pregnant (the little mule...) but so far she is willing and smart, she can collect and extend fairly well, and comes onto the bit nicely. I have ridden her less than 20 times in the nearly a year that I have had her, and before me she was a trail pony. She has a nice comformation, I don't know if I have any pics, but I can check and see. She is very attractive to look at, nice legs (she has a scar, but it's only cosmetic, and wouldn't be passed on anyways) and solid build. The "weak" point for my mare are very few. One would be her height, and the only other I can think of is her movement, but even that's not bad for a pony. She doesn't have a huge range of movement, but I really haven't had a chance to see what she can do.  #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Any other questions?? I'll still try to get photos for this aft. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Edited to add pic off of his website #ed_op#A href="http://fsgfarm.bravehost.com/stallion.htm"#ed_cl##ed_op#FONT color=#0000ff#ed_cl#http://fsgfarm.bravehost.com/stallion.htm#ed_op#/FONT#ed_cl##ed_op#/A#ed_cl# I will still try to get good conformation shots, but these are what I have until the weekend I think...#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#IMG style="WIDTH: 555px; HEIGHT: 549px" height=642 src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/ShezaPerfectAngel/PDR_0393.jpg" width=612#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#IMG style="WIDTH: 548px; HEIGHT: 470px" height=1238 src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/ShezaPerfectAngel/PDR_0269.jpg" width=1703#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Kobau - Too cool! Are you breeding your Morgan mare to a Trakhenar stud
(as mentioned above?). I look forward to seeing pics of that baby, I
bet it will be a nice one!#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
