#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#We have put in an offer on acreage in Alberta (still negotiating, but it's looking good). It looks like we will be moving August 15. We have 2 mares that are pregnant and the one thing I have never done before is move pregnant mares, especially not a move that is to another province. One mare was bred June 2 and the other was bred May 23. Pretty sure the first one has taken as she would have been back in heat by now, but we're getting them both ultrasounded next week anyway just to make sure. One of our vets thinks once they get past day 35 the fetus should be good and imbedded to the uterine wall and moving will be okay. Our OB vet stated she wants to see what the ultrasound says first before deciding what to recommend. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#What's your thoughts on moving mares in their first "trimester"? Mares get shipped from Europe all the time who are in foal, but we can't seem to determine the percentage of losses due to that moving. It would be nice to decide our level of risk based on other people's experience. A vet can say your risk is probably about "X percent", but we would like to hear from people who've done it. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl# #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#We can always leave the mares here for a while and pay someone to look after them for us and ship them when they're further along, but it would be nice to move our whole herd together. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
